These are my links for October 2nd through October 4th:
- Compost Buckets - Composting - Outdoor - Eco Home & Outdoor - Gaiam - Smell-proof compost buckets are a great way to keep everything going without offending my roommates.
- ReportingOn - The backchannel for your beat. - Ryan Sholin launched ReportingOn this week. The goal, from what I understand, is to connect reporters so discussions about sources, story ideas and experiences can help the community. Great stuff, hoping to get a lot of this project.
- Sarah Palin on Climate Change: The Causes Don’t Matter : Red, Green, and Blue - Without taking sides politically I will ask one question: If you are going to fix something and change its impact wouldn't we need to know how the problem happened?
- Steve Jobs Heart Attack Rumor Raises Concern Over Citizen Journalism | PSFK - Trends, Ideas & Inspiration - A take on the rumor about Steve Jobs' heart attack that somehow wound up on CNN's iReport. The opinion seems to take a negative tone to citizen journalism however Dave Cohn (yes, THAT Dave Cohn) argues about the importance of professionals working with amateurs. We must understand that most of the time, citizen journalism works. The rest of the time, we have to remember to work on overseeing it, not removing it.
- mwesch Assignment - New Media and a Democratic Society - Assignment overview from Mindy McAdams discussing the implications of cheaply produced videos viewed around the world near instantly. She takes her inspiration from Michael Wesch, a cultural anthropology professor at Kansas State University.
- MediaShift . Video Report from ONA::Journalism Grads Need Basic Skills Plus Openness, Flexibility | PBS - More sound advice for graduating journalists. Hoping to apply some strategies to my journalism education.
