- Textorizer - vectorise a picture using text strings - Quickly make an image made up of text. Great way to make artistic stuff.
- Orbicule | Undercover - Software for recovering stolen computers. Looks pricey and possibly ineffective. Still worth researching.
- How To Start A Business With No Money | Brazen Careerist - Tips and truths about starting businesses without a lot of capital.
- Soundslides Embed Utility - Tool for getting html code for embedding uploaded Soundslides into WordPress posts.
- Banned: Blogging and Twittering « Beyond Print: Looking Into the Prism - Possible ban on student for blogging about her class at NYU. Convaluted messages coming from the professor who told the students they could not blog.
- 8 WordPress Plugins for Page Management - Mashable - LIst of plugins for mostly managing and ordering pages, something possibly necessary for a WordPress CMS solution.
- Video Journal: Fuel truck explosion in northeast Spokane - One of the best examples of video shot for web publication. People, action, details and snappy cuts without running too long propel the story quickly while being complete.
- Alltop, all the top stories - Great tool for finding aggregated information about any topics. Allows for users to submit both topics and sources. To see the nuts and bolts, click the about link.
- Dave Lee / jBlog › What’s the difference between online and broadcast video? - Lee’s take on both technical differences between web and broadcast video like quality and size contrast sound advice for what online video needs to drop and adopt. Hint: Extend worthwhile content. Keyword being worthwhile.
- Free Press? Not At Quinnipiac University — Courant.com - The president of Quinnipiac University issued a statement ordering all faculty to refuse comments directed at an independent student publication. He goes on to threaten the SPJ chapter because he said they are working with the independent publication (Quad News) to undermine and put the “official” newspaper out of business. I’m not making this up.
- Photography Staff Manual - Great resource for any legal issues affecting campus photographers and photojournalists. Explains situations and reasoning behind permission to photograph in specific situations. Love it!
- Newspaper curmudgeon talking points: The e-book — Eat Sleep Publish - Eat, Sleep Publish’s e-book guide to addressing curmudgeons. Great way to counter negative attitude in a news room.
- What Makes for a Good Blog? | 43 Folders - Courtesy of 10000words: A great site with some tips on blogging, mostly dealing with productivity, subject choice and attitude. My favorite is number 3 — “Good blogs are the product of “Attention times Interest.”
- amCharts: Download flash charts and graphs - Free tools for visualizing data on graphs or charts. Great animation, fluid data displays and what looks like tons of options have me downloading and testing out a few of them.
