This is a personal post, but it’s tied to my journalism education in a large way. After graduating from Northampton Community College with an Associate’s Degree in journalism, I’m continuing to pursue my Bachelor’s degree at Temple University.
That’s right I’ve moved from the sticks, to the city.
Now, what does this have to do with journalism and journalism education? For starters, there’s more going on in Philadelphia. It’s a larger media market, there’s more resources and more opportunities to network. I’m getting practical experience working at The Temple News (unofficially right now, tune in for more).
There’s more dedicated faculty than I’m used to, more opportunities for internships, more resources and more depth and breadth. Temple is helping me educate myself.
Right now I’m busy getting lost in north Philly during the day and meeting people at night. In a week I’ll start my continuing journalism education at which point I’ll have an assessment of my classes. Stay tuned.

Welcome to Philly Jared! It’s a tough town with some great people like any other east coast city. Advice from an Old Skool blogger, watch your surroundings, look people in the eye! Best!
